BLM Round-ups - the ugly solution in US versus one very good solution in Brazil!

The federal roundups are still ongoing 2024. Read more here: https://americanwildhorsecampaign.org/media/blm-updates-its-2024-roundup-schedule

More about the very bad situation in US below. I find it hard to report how ugly and bad it really is. But we have to bring awareness to hopefully be able to discuss it and stop the horror and create better solutions. Urgently needed!

There are endless numbers of stories like this online. I will just bring a few links here. Read the full article in Federal Times here: https://www.federaltimes.com/federal-oversight/congress/2023/07/20/mustangs-die-some-with-broken-necks-in-blm-roundup-caught-on-video/

Not only is it very sad that these beautiful so called 'National Treasures' are not able to live their peaceful lives in their natural herds, but the round-ups are so horrible and an ugly chapter alone. US ought to be able to do better than this.

They are chasing the wild herds with helicopters from the air to get the herds to run into the fenced areas - causing so much stress and panic among the horses, that they 'run for their life' - adult horses, young horses and foals. Some die of exhaustion or dehydration in this wild run, others fall down and get severe injuries and are left with no chance of surviving. Foals and young horses hooves are not hardened enough yet and therefore they will 'run down their hooves' and cannot run anymore. They are left there to die - bleeding and not able to stand up anymore.

And it is not only in the chase that some mustangs die or get severely injured. When they end in the traps, the BLM round pens, they are so scared and exhausted and they are desperate to get out. Trying to jump fences they cannot jump and hurt them selves or other horses badly. In all round-ups horses are euthanized because of injuries in the chase or in capture.

When they are captured they get freeze marks before they are sold in the auctions. All the stallions are castrated in the first weeks of being captured. From the round pens they are led into the so called 'squeeze chutes', being chased from behind into more and more narrow fences until they suddenly can't go any further. Then the 'cage' is also locked behind them and something comes down on the back to force them to stand still.

Much of the staff working in the BLM facilities and helping with handling the horses are American inmates. Not necessarily familiar with handling horses.
